Alcoholic drinks and hand sanitisers contaminated with toxic methanol cause blindness and even death to thousands of people every year. Thanks to ALIVION's pioneering developments in nanotechnology, a pocket-sized methanol detector has been developed that allows consumers, distillers, health professionals and the police to check whether drinks or disinfectants are safe in just a few minutes. ALIVION is a spin-off company of ETH Zurich that develops "sniffing" electronics for applications in the fields of medicine, environment and food safety.
